Gobustan


Gobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve is located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of the center of Baku. It was established in 1966, when the area was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in an attempt to preserve the prehistoric rock carvings, mud volcanoes and musical stones in the region.

The natural conditions were completely different 20-25 thousand years ago. Judging by the depictions of animals and human figures in Gobustan, the region had a warm climate 10 to 12 thousand years ago

 

Flora and Fauna

It's estimated that 300 of the planet's estimated 700 mud volcanoes are located in GobustanAzerbaijan, and the Caspian Sea. Mud volcanoes of Gobustan are a popular attraction for both scientists and tourists, the latter often bathing in mud, which is thought to have medicinal qualities.

 

Yanar Dagh (Burning Mountain)

Yanar Dagh is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan (a country which itself is known as "the Land of Fire"). Flames jet 3 metres (9.8 ft) into the air from a thin, porous sandstone layer.

 

Ateshgah of Baku

The Ateshgah of Baku, often called the "Fire Temple of Baku", is a castle-like religious temple in Surakhany town (in Surakhany raion),[2] a suburb in BakuAzerbaijan. Based on Iranian and Indian inscriptions, the temple was used as a HinduSikh, and Zoroastrian place of worship. "Ātash" is the Persian word for fire.

 

Shahdag

For skiing and snowboarding, there are 32 km of slopes available. 17 lifts transport the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,435 and 2,552 m. 

 

Gabala

Cable Car in Gabala is a highlight of the city. Divided into four levels, you can have an enjoyable experience with really nice views of the city. The cable car goes upto 1600-1900 meters.

The Heydar Aliyev Center represents a fluid form which emerges by the folding of the landscape's natural topography and by the wrapping of individual functions of the Center
